Dr. Julie Mead Presentation

Public Schools & Privatization: What’s at Stake?

AAUW – Appleton, League of Women Voters – Appleton, and Fox Cities Advocates for Public Education are sponsoring a free event open to the public on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm at the Appleton Public Library, Rooms ABC. Dr. Julie Mead shares her research on forms of school privatization, including school vouchers, which use tax dollars to support tuition at private schools. She will discuss the trade-offs involved in various forms of school choice, the history of Wisconsin’s voucher and charter school programs and the implications of those policies on public education. Dr. Mead explains the traditional features of public schools and how privatization alters those features and includes research on the comparative efficacy of different forms of schools.

Questions and discussion will follow the talk.
